I have the problem that my MS fingerprint reader (built into the keyboard)
works fine when the computer boots up and when it wakes from sleeping.
However, it stops working after a few minutes. The light flashes steady and
it does not read or give any response on the PC. I'm using DPM 2.0 and Vista
Business 32-bit operating system. Has anyone else had this problem?
it seems to stop working.. its actually transmitting your biodata to MS for
storage.
Try putting in the middle finger.. perhaps vista will like that and work.

Does this happen ONLY after resuming from sleep/hibernation? If so then I
suspect it's one of the known issues that a hotfix may exist for.

No, it happens even after cold boots. Also, if I disable the driver in
Device Manager and then enable it, it works for a minute and then stops again.

some hardware or usb have an option to turn a device off to conserve
energy...
look in the device manager and the power options.. and turn them all off and
see if this helps

Hmm, could be a similar issue. But it sounds like you need an updated
driver for that device. You might check with the device manufacturer. The
only hotfixes I have seen relative to fingerprint readers are relative to
the device after sleep/hibernate.

It's not a power related problem. Checked it already.
Seems to related to anti-virus software. I was running One Care Live and
after removing it, it works better...so far. I'm installing McAfee and will
see if the problem continues. Is it possible the firewall sees it as an
unprotected port and blocks it?

Well, I thought it might be the anti-virus software or the keyboard
software...but its not. The driver date is 9/16/06 and I checked the
manufacturer's site...nothing newer.
There's a conflict somewhere...just can't find it!
