2 Computers One with Vista Premium and One with XP Home woking off a KVM
Switch. At moment the Vista machine is on Broadband via Ethernet.
Question...Can I have an extra Ethernet Cable connected to the XP machine
and unplug the Vista Cable from the Broadband Box and then plug the XP cable
into the box when and if I need to without causing any damage to either
Computer or Broadband Box, this of course when both Computers and the
Broadband Box are switched on.

Yes you can do this - both system will detect the removal of the cable and
reinsertion.
HOWEVER, why not put a network hub/switch in to give both system access to
the broadband and each other.
There are lots of good articles about installing a simple home network
around. and the hardware is minimal cost

I second Marks suggestion, get yourself behind a router and you'll be really
secure.

Thanks for all the sugestions..suddenly realised that I have a Linksys
Wireless-G 2.4Ghz Broadband Router with Speed Booster with One Ethernet Input
and 4 Ethernet Outputs...have mislaid the Handbook but still have the CDs
that came with it...
So to recap..Cable from Broadband to the Input...Cables from the 2 Computers
go to 2 of the Output sockets and there wont be a Clash from the Computers.

Exactly.
As long as the router is configures to serve off IP addressing information
for multiple machines
