Ok....I just got a new system with Vista. I have always been able to edit
config files within Microsoft FLight Sim without any problem using notepad.
Now i try to edit these files in FSX and I get this error message:
"Cannot create the c:\Program files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight
SImulator X\SimObjects\Airplanes\Airbus_A321\Panel\Panel.cfg file." "Make
sure that the path and file name are correct."
This is very frustrating, because I have double checked and doubled checked
that the path and file name are correct. Can anyone tell me why this is
doing that or maybe direct me to where I can get help on this??
Can you navigate to and see that file in Windows Explorer?

Yes I can. I go to the file and either right click and choose edit or
double click on the file. I could usually just make my changes and then
save. Only now with Vista, when I click on save I get that error message
every time.

Can you try this - go to Accessories and right click on Notepad or Wordpad.
Choose run as administrator. See if you can edit and save your file that
way...

Right click on the Notepad shortcut and select Run as Administrator, then open
the file. It is because of Vista new security model protecting files in the
Programs folder.

Did you turn UAC (User Account Control) off in Vista?
The C:\Program Files is a restricted area in Vista. If there is a program
configuration file that the program updates, there should be a mirror copy
of the file in the C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Progr am
Files folder. This is called Virtualization in Vista and this is tightly
integrated with the UAC mode.
You can do one of 2 things that should resolve the problem.
1. Turn UAC on.
2. Point the FSX program to the copy of the FSX configuration file in the
C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Progr am Files folder and
perform the editing there.
Let us know what you find.

Ok..all I had to do if go to the original Notepad icon and right click to
"run as administrator." It then opened Notepad and I searched for the file
and was able to successfully edit it. Thank you all for your help! :-)
