Default DVD drive disappears after burning / inserting disc

Hello,

After I burn a DVD, and when I re-insert a disc into the drive, the drive
light stays on forever, and the drive is no longer recognized in Windows.
It isn't listed in Device Manager, and it doesn't show up as a drive in
Windows Explorer. The manual eject button is non-responsive. It doesn't
seem to matter what I use to burn. I've experienced the problem with
different burning software. When I reboot everything works fine again. I'm
running Vista Home Premium. It is a fairly new Dell laptop with a "TSSTcorp
DVD +-RW TS-L632D ATA Device" for the DVD drive.

I'm still working with Dell on this, and they had me delete the
UpperFilters/LowerFilters as described here:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

but that has not fixed the problem. They've had me run built in diagnostics
on the drive, and the drive passes all tests. It doesn't really seem like a
hardware problem.

The driver is version 6.0.6000.16386 dated 6/21/2006 from Microsoft.

Any suggestions would be great!

Thanks,
Mark
