dual layer DVD

how do i read/access both of the two layers of data/files in a dual layer
recorded DVD. on opening the DVD from my DVD RW drive, all the listed content
isnt visible.

You don't really access the layers separately. You need an optical drive
that supports dual layers. Then it just sees the disk as having
increased capacity.

if you know that there are more files that are not showing there are 3
possibilities

1) Your dvd does not support reading dual layered dvd media
2) the dvd media is defective scratched and therefore its not working
3) vista is mixed up as usual and creating problems that should not exist

oh there is one more...

4) the dvd drive itself is breaking down...

I have seen dvd drives that cannot read dvds and only cds for example
