I've been fighting this playback properties thing for a week now and am
getting nowhere. Does anyone show Line in and Microphone under your sound
*playback* properties? I have tried all sorts of drivers from Realtek and
Biostar tech support tells me I've got the latest firmware for my
motherboard. I am even willing to buy a Vista compatible sound card (I'm
using onboard sound now) but I can't find one anywhere that claims to be
Vista ready. Some claim to be developing drivers for Vista but none seem to
have any ready.
Or is it even a driver problem?
As I said in an earlier post (Sound - Line IN) I do not have the option to
turn Line In or my microphone on *except* for recording and there's a link
there to http://mewnlite.com/sound.gif pointing out exactly what I'm
talking about.
I need Line In to make my TV card work. I also like to have my microphone
sound coming out my speakers on ocassion.
So... I'm just wondering if *anyone* has those showing in their playback
properties? Surely someone has a TV card that uses Line In and it is
working... or do they?
Have you right clicked on the Recording Devices window and checked both Show
Disabled Devices and Show Disconnected Devices?

The way my setup works has changed from XP. I have a couple of Pioneer
CDJ800s connected to a DJM400 mixer. Phono leads from the mixer go into the
Line In on the motherboard and under XP what was being played on the CDs
would come out of the computer speakers. Under Vista I can record through
the Line In okay but there is no longer sound from the PC speakers.
My Line In doesn't show in the Playback using the latest 24-bit Realtek
drivers for a K9N Neo.
Yes, but they are showing in the Recording Devices window. It's the
playback devices that I'm concerned about. I also have those checked in
the Playback Devices window, but nothing shows.

Yep. Same problem as mine. Just different hardware. I can record with
Line in too.
There's an idea. Capture/record the newscast and then a half hour later
play it back... :-)
Seriously though, no one here seems to know anything about it. Where do
we go to ask?
There is no possible way that line in and microphone INPUTS would show in
Playback Devices.
Playback devices are just that -- OUTPUT devices (speakers, headphones)
Recording devices are INPUT devices (microphone, tape deck, etc)
When is the last time you listened to a microphone?

OK. Point taken. It's worded a bit different in XP.
See http://mewnlite.com/xpsound.gif
So how do you adjust the playback volume for these devices?
