Default DirectX 10

I'm trying to enable DirectDraw hardware acceleration, but to no avail. I
cannot seem to enable it. Can anyone help me out?

Or can someone tell me how to make DirectX 9 my default DirectX version
instead of 10?

Also, I have Vista Ultimate.

Cheers,

Maybe this will help:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/191660

Note this section in the KB article:
Method 1: Configure Hardware Acceleration to use the Full setting

Downgrading DirectX is not an option, nor would it be a solution. DirectX
10 is backward compatible, so to speak.

Well, technically it's not.

DirectX 10 is not backwards compatible (unlike previous versions).

However, Vista comes with DirectX 9.0L as well as DirectX 10, so old
programs will run fine.

A DirectX 9 program will not know about DirectX 10, and will use DirectX
9. A DirectX 10 program cannot run on DirectX 9, and will use DirectX 10.
