Problem, Desktop background for some reason changed to black.
I can select any of the other colours but not any of the sample pictures or
any of my pictures to use as a background.
Have tried some of the other fixes in tis forum but nothing works.
Interestingly on logging shutting down I see the picture I want use as a
background briefly.
Did you install windows vista sp1?
It sounds like what vista sp1 is supposed to the piracy copy.

It certainly may not be necessary for the OP to recreate his profile. It may
be a very simple fix, so why have him go through all that pain?
To the OP:
If you can't change Desktop background - Start>Control Panel>Ease of
Access>Ease of Access Center. Under "Make things on the screen easier to
see", deselect the option "Remove background images (where available).
Select "Save".
Save the file to Desktop. Right-click on the file and then choose "Merge".
If this doesn't work (just writing "Have tried some of the other fixes"
doesn't tell me what you did), then:
The First Question Of Troubleshooting: what changed between the time things
worked and the time they didn't?
The Second Question of Windows Troubleshooting: what is the malware/virus
status of the machine? If you think it is clean, what programs (and
versions) did you use to determine this?
I am using Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0.1.321 lasted with auto update
feature
so virus definitions are up to date, so resonably certain no malware on the
computer.
The Start>Control Panel>Ease of Access>Ease of Access Center. Under "Make
things on the screen easier to see", deselect the option "Remove background
images (where available). > Select "Save". has fixed the problem, Still do
not how this got clicked, The mind boggles with the ins and outs of microsoft.
Thanks again, would have hated to have create a new profile and try and
transfer everything across without losing any data

Awesome! I'm so glad that sorted it for you. I have no idea how it got
checked but apparently this happens to a fair amount of people. In any
case, thank you for taking the time to let me know.
