I don't always agree with what Microsoft thinks I want, and which they
try very hard to keep me from getting what I want. In particular this
day, I've had Vista Home Premium almost a month now and the thing that
bugs me the most is that MS makes assumptions about how I want to see
a list of files, what we used to call a directory.
I almost universally want to see either LIST or DETAILS. I usually
want to have those details include name, size, date of origin or
modification, path and once in a while time and/or type.
I call up a "folder" that has music files in it and in the details it
thinks I want to know when it was "first taken." I suppose they think
I photographed it.
I'd better get to the point before I get too grumpy for civilized
company.
Anyway, I try to fid a way to make that my universal default view,
with the option of giving some categories other view details.
The only thing the help file that HP supplied with this machine tells
me that I can make a folder have my default by clicking on VIEW and
then it will show me a choice of making a change. No such option
shows up.
After all that my question is, can I change VIEW's default?
1. Open a folder & make all the changes you want to see when you open
any
folder.
2. click on TOOLS
3. click on FOLDER OPTIONS
4. click on VIEW tab
5. click on "APPLY TO FOLDERS" button
6. you'll get a window pop-up asking you to confirm it, click YES
7. click OK until your out of Folder options
That's it. But I warn you, Vista is known to have a faulty memory &
will sometimes revert back to default views or have what your seeing a
video view for music files for no apparent reason.

I'll second that. Anyone have a suggestion? Mine seems to think most
directories contain music files even though they don't. Even search
results.
