Control alt delete after wake up

From sleep mode I can press any key to get the screen back. However in order
for Vista to recognise a mouse action e.g. click on anything, I have to
control alt delete. Then I've found if I click cancel two times it goes back
to Vista and everythings fine.
It's becoming a bit of a pain.
