Computer turns off when not in use

New computer user!!! Why does my computer turn off when not in use? It's so
frustrating b/c I also lose my internet connectivity. I'm thinking it is
probably about an hour or so (not real sure 'cause I've walked away) that the
computer stays "live" - the turns itself off!! How can I get it to stay up
for extended periods - even when I'm not actively using it? I was a Gateway
laptop with Windows Vista. Appreciate any help y'all can give me! THANKS!

Control Panel, Power Options will let you set the time.

yeap, i bet this is the reason, the first time i installed vista, it
went to sleep while i was sleeping... i was so freak out... because it
was a new system... lucky it was only the sleep mode, nothing was wrong.
I disable it, and now it never happened again.
