I have been traveling with laptop for past 2 weeks and upon returning
experienced the same problem too, that is:
- Can't close, minimize, maximize, move ANY windows
- Right-clicking over the applications/thumbnails in the task-bar no longer
brings up any menu options (such as 'close')
- Only 'show desktop' seems to work to minimize all windows, then have to
reopen the one you want to use
- if no 'windows/vista' circle available in uppper left corner of window,
then no method to actually close/exit that window/program, so have to open
task manager and 'end process' to close that program
- problem is with fully updated version of windows vista ultimate and not
running spybot or any other 'new' programs...i.e. - nothing has 'changed' on
computer in past 2+ weeks

Do you have any updates on this problem. I am experiencing the exact
same problem. I have the most up-to-date Macromedia engine installed,
but I've also experienced the same problem without it.
Thanks in advance,
Ryan

Peter, any progress on this one?...I too have this same exact issue and set
of sypmtoms. Just started a few days ago. I'm using Vista Business edition
and I've tried everything I know to try including a repair on Vista. Please
help.
The up side is that I will definitely know all the short cut keys now.

Additional information on my problem. This started after installing the
following Microsoft updates and software:
KB905866, KB936960, KB936181, KB938127, KB937143, KB933579, KB890830,
KB936021, KB936782, KB936644, KB938123, and I also installed Windows Mobile
Device Center and Windows Mobile Device Center Driver Update.
I have tried rolling back these updates and uninstalling the Mobile Device
software, but it didn't help.
Other symptoms I am having that started at the same time as this issue are:
Outlook occasionally crashes with the message "outlook has stopped
responding and must close". It closes and restarts itself.
Windows confirmation dialog boxes (do you really want to do xyz?) come up
with the selection buttons, but there are no words in the buttons. The
buttons do work, but with no words.

I am having the same issue too. I am glad that I knew that Alt-F4 will close
a window. I have also noticed that some dialogs buttons do not have any
label. A Yes/No dialog will just have two blank buttons
I had the Mobiltiy Sync Center software on my computer too. I wonder if that
had anything to do with it.

techatplay--
After living with this for more than a month, to solve the issue I had to
completely reinstall Vista, Office, McAfee, etc. Everything works now
including Sync Center. I never solved the root issue. Good Luck.

I gave up also and used the restore feature to return to factory information.
I wonder if all of the people effected had added the Mobility Center.
