I think I found an interesting bug with the SCREENSAVER interacting with the
SLEEP mode after you RESTORE default settings.
I tested this on one laptop, by creating multiple users. Tested in
Microsoft Vista Premium, with several installed MS screensavers., on a HP
Laptop, with no devices plugged in.
WORKS
Create a New User
Change Screensaver to start 1 min
Change Power Plan to Turn off Display 2 min
Change Power Plan to SLEEP in 3 min
Wait 3 mins, the computer will SLEEP
NOT WORK
Click RESTORE Default Settings for this plan
Keep Screensaver to start 1 min
Change Power Plan to Turn off Display 2 min
Change Power Plan to Sleep in 3 min
Wait 1 min, screensaver kicks in.
Wait 2 min, the DISPLAY flashes as it will turn off, but then the desktop is
visible again.
Wait 3 mins, the screen saver kicks in (since it is now 1 min after activity)
and now it will always recycle this process, and will never to SLEEP.
The WORKAROUND
Change Screensaver to start 2 min
Change Power Plan to Turn off Display 1 min
KEEP Power Plan to Sleep in 3 min
Wait 1 min, the DISPLAY shuts off.
Wait 3 mins, the computer will SLEEP
If you see, after the RESTORE settings, when Windows tries to turn off the
display while the screensaver is on, it seems to trigger some kind of
activity, and the computer wakes up again. Once I RESTORE settings, I cannot
get it to work properly again. I can only get it working properly again for
a new user.
Does anyone else see this issue?
Any ideas on how to fix?
I thought about creating a new ADMIN, and deleting the original account, but
I thought that would cause issues since I would loose the ORIGINAL/OWNER
account?
