Default Bring back ME!

Vista is crap. If I see another "the parameter is incorrect" when I plug a
drive into my USB ports I'm gonna scream. What a joke this software is. Why
should it be the manufacturer's problem to fix drivers on hardware that works
under 2000 and XP?

HP is no better. In India the guy tells me there's no DOWNgrade.
Downgrade? XP is an UPgrade to Vista.

Never seen that error message in my 18 months of using Vista as my OS.

Try updating the drivers for your USB ports, you don't wanna go back to ME,
I doubt that would even install on the laptop. It is the manufacturer's
responsibility to ensure their hardware is compatible.

You are 100% right. You should stay away from XP and Vista and concentrate
on Windows ME. That is how you should deal with computers. Windows ME!

If it's a new laptop and you are getting those errors, take it back. It
should work straight out of the box.

The manufacturer supports their own hardware, regardless of OS. If a new OS
comes out, it is the manufacturers responsibility to make drivers for it. If
they don't, they force an End Of Life for the product. But, Microsoft
shouldn't and couldn't support all the manufacturers hardware. Even they
don't have the resources or time to create drivers for everything. Just
because it works with 2000, doesn't mean it will work with XP. Rewind a few
years and you'll see the same complaints about drivers with XP not working
as they did in 2000.

You cannot downgrade in the sense of installing XP and keeping all your
settings and files. It would be a format and reinstall.

I have dual 300G drives in a Netgear Storage Central that doesn't work. I
have 2 external USB drives from Maxtor that don't work, and my Memorex
Traveldrive doesnt' work, but this is not M$ fault? The patch for my One
Touch III says that I need to reformat the drive that XP and 2000 can read
fine.

I was just kidding you all on the Me part :-) Right now, I'd compare Vista
to Me in terns of usefulness. They both suck. If my XP laptop had not
failed, or had I just been smart enough to buy before Vista...oh I didn't
need a laptop before that :-)

Anyway. I'm not happy with how Vista is trying to save me from hackers,
crackers, and thieves. (or Gypsies and Tramps for that matter). If my new
box was not Vista specific, or HP made drivers for the hardware, I'd go back
to XP Pro in a minute. I still might pull the HD and give it a whirl anyway.

If this is a new laptop and came preinstalled with Vista ... TAKE IT BACK
for repair or replacement. Demonstrate your problem when you return it.
This is not the way a new piece of hardware should act, and it certainly is
not the fault of Vista.

HI Micro,

What Dustin has said is quite true and as suggested I would be taking your
laptop back to where you bought it and get them to sort out the problem. With
regards to ME and Vista within an hour of installing ME I knew it was crap
and dumped it and went back to 98, but I have been using both the Vista
beta's and now Vista Business and I have found it to be a good O/S ( not
great as yet, but good ). Like all new O/S there are teething problems but as
hardware technology continues to grow at the rate it does and all different
variables from manufacturers there will always be teething problems.

have so many CD games etc on it only they know how it works.....but it does.
(they are 6 & 10)

Never seen one of those .. what are you doing wrong?

have three Maxtor externals all work fine
although the Maxtor TerraByte drive is very poor Quality, notice? Maxtor?
Three other external Seagates, all work fine, what are you doing wrong?
They all work fine, is this Microsoft's fault?

The only thing wrong with WinME is it's still Win98.

Using Vista for 2 months now without a single problem.
