Default BITS stopped, cannot download updates

A few weeks ago my BITS stopped working and I'm unable to download
windows updates. Also, I keep getting a message saying a windows host
process has stopped working. I've been in contact with microsoft and
nothing they tell me works. They even sent me a new disk to reinstall
windows but that hasn't fixed the problem. Any ideas?

Hi Daisy,

Run services.msc from the start/search line. Locate the BITS (background
intelligence) service and double click it. Start the service if necessary.
On the general tab, make sure startup type is set to automatic. On the
Recovery tab, set the first failure line to restart the service. Click
apply/ok.
