Automatic Pop-Ups

When I attempt to access my Webmail, I get a message that says "Automatic
Popup windows are disabled for your browser. You must allow popup windows
for the WebMail URL to continue." I have already clicked and enabled "Always
Allow Pop-ups from This Site"; however I am still getting the message and am
not able to continue. I have doubled checked and should be able to get popups
from this site. What else do I need to do?

Try to add the site in your "Trusted Sites" by clicking on Tools | Internet
options | Security | Trusted sites | Sites | Add.

Do you have a third party firewall installed that controls popups. If yes,
you may need to turn that feature off in your firewall as well as in IE.

I am not very computer literate. I just bought this computer last week and
the only thing I have installed on it is a trial Norton. How do I find out
if I have a firewall and then how do I turn it off?

You don't want to turn off the firewall, only the option to control pop-ups
if it has such an option. Chances are, your system only came with Windows
Firewall and it doesn't have that option. You can check the documentation
on your computer to see what was included and pre-installed on the setup but
usually third party firewalls are not included in OEM, Original Equipment
Manufacturer" setups so you are probably safe.

As someone else pointed out, you can try putting the specific site in the
trusted zone. I wouldn't recommend turn off IE's protected mode but you
might try lowering it's security settings in Control Panel, Internet
Options, Security tab. Before doing that, check to see if you have
antivirus software running on the system, many OEMs do include such software
or trial versions in their setups and many of them have options to block
pop-ups. Where you find that various, look for settings or options or
preferences within the software. Again, check your documentation for what
was included. If antivirus was included, look for it on the start menu,
open the app and try to find the options to see if it is controlling
pop-ups.

Uninstall the Norton program. It is notorious for messing with Windows
Vista, especially Windows Mail.
It is incompatible with Windows Mail. Get a free anti-virus such as AVG
http://free.grisoft.com or Avast! http://www.avast.com/

Every toolbar you allow to install has it's own popup blocker in addition to
the one built into Windows.
If you have installed the Yahoo, Google, MSN, AOL or other toolbar, you need
to disable the popup blocker in it also.
Programs like Norton Internet Security, McAfee, Spyware Doctor, etc also
have popup blocking capability.
