Its a newish AMD Phenom 9500 build. I replaced my m2n32 board with an
ecs a-770. To run my phenom at HT3.0
Now to the fun part :
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH

This crash log I get with said program, Sequoia, but I also get it with
Mahong Titans, chess, photoshop, Office, you name it, Hell I cant even
play half life 2 now.
This is a new, as of 12 hours ago vista ultimate 64 install that I had
lying around..Bought the oem when it came out at microcenter. I have
not activated my copy as I dont want to screw myself out of a working
vista ultimate you know..I dont see that as being the culprit anyhoo.
So Im looking for info to this and see some stuff at technet, however I
dont see the root cause or any good answers to solve this issue.
The programs crashes upon double clicking it to start. Whatever
program..take your pick.
Oh, just as an FYI, XP X64 runs like buttah on my machine. But I really
want to run vista. Even though it supposedly sucks for a DAW.

You have an ECS motherboard and you're blaming Vista for the problem?
How about you try buying quality parts next time? Are you sure XP
doesn't crash on the same board? Frankly, I owned an ECS once and the
experience was so bad that I swore never to touch them again.
I didn't think these processors were released at this clock speed yet. If
you've OC'd the system, drop it back to normal FSB/multiplier and check
system stability again.

The only thing I can add is to make sure you've installed the latest
drivers and updates for your system. Vista 101, but I thought I'd throw
it out there. Hope you can get your system working properly.
I put that number in google, found its common at technet. So what did
they say for someone, who iexplorer was doing this..
to rename cmoctl32.dll file to .old and I guess let it rebuild itself.
Like trashing an ini file and letting it rebuild itself..I guess..
so I try to do that but even in safemode command prompt, im told I dont
have access to the file and not allowed to do that...
But I put the M2N32 mobo back in and am going back to X64 for now. I
have some sessions I have to do. But maybe when Sp1 officially comes out
Ill reinstall vista.
Thanks peeps for the help.

Phenom 9500 / 770 chipset
4 gigs ddr2 / 8400gs
Xp X64 Sp2 / Ultimate 64 no sp yet
Seemingly random crashes are often caused by RAM errors. This can happen in
Vista and not XP because of the way Vista loads. Vista uses something called
Address Space Load Randomization (ASLR) to load the system into slightly
different areas of RAM every time it loads as a security feature. XP doesn't
do this. This means if you have bad RAM (or bad hardware causing the symptom
of bad RAM) XP may not notice it because the bad RAM isn't in a system area.
Vista because it loads the system into varying areas of RAM may crash with
many different errors.

What's the crash data for a Microsoft application/component that is
crashing?

Speaking for myself only.
