Default Answers to wireless encryption

Here are my findings which i hope helps anyone with similar problems. You
will find my problem listed below entitled psk encryption. Which nobody could
help with i might add!
Since my initial post i have been in touch with Draytek Vigor and they were
unaware of this problem.
I also tried a second router; Netgear. The results are the same, as follows;
SSID hidden & MAC enabled = no connection
SSID hidden & MAC disabled = no connection
SSID visible & MAC enabled = connection ok
SSID visible & MAC disabled = connection ok
This is all with WPA PSK
I should add that when SSID is hidden, Vista manages to find an "unamed
network" but you will not connect..
At least with XP no network is visible. Is Vista too smart for it's own good?
The upshot is; PSK works fine but you cannot hide the SSID.
Hope this helps.

Default Re: Answers to wireless encryption

Hiding the SSID has frequently been suggested as a "security enhancement"
but it really is not, and in fact has caused problems with Windows XP and
2000 clients not being able to connect to the router when the SSID broadcast
is disabled. So no, it's not a Vista thing at all.
