Another but different sleep problem

I am running vista premium 32bit oem with an asus P5B vista edition mother
board and HIS radeon 2600xt graphics card.I built the system myself to help
me learn about how it all works.My problem is that my pc will not wake from
sleep except by physically pressing the case power button.(it then wakes from
sleep normally) It makes no difference if its from a timed event (recording
for example) or from the mouse/keyboard or the media center remote
control.When i try to wake by any of these methods then my power light flashs
momentarily (it recieves the signal) then nothing no matter how long I wait,
it wont do anything until i physically press the case button, it then wakes
from sleep as expected.I have tried all of the different suggestions
regarding power settings ,jumper settings for the mother board etc that i can
find. I really need some expert help to track down what the issue is.The only
thing i have noticed is that for some devices in power state mapping for s3
d2 is reported instead of d3.I have no idea if this is the problem or how to
change that state.I am not an expert user so please make suggestions
understandable (treat me like a novice) Any help would really be appreaciated
as everything else seems to be working just fine.

Hi nigel,

Check out these different Sleep options and set the sleep option in the
BIOS to the one you prefer and if your Motherboard supports the sleep
option.

I have the same MB It's vista. It works fine in xp.
Microsoft is aware of it. Can they fix it ? Don't count on it.

Bios supports S-1 S-3 It's Vista.
Works fine in XP

Just a shot in the dark here, but open up device manager (use the
Vista search box) and cruise down to the listing for your HID-
compliant device (mouse). If you right click on it and go to
properties, there should be an option for "Power Management". Make
sure that "Allow this device to wake the computer" is checked.

If that still doesn't work, then you probably have a power issue with
one of your devices. Open up your settings from screensavers, click
power management, and take a look at your advanced settings. Try
toggling the settings for different components on whether or not they
actually turn off during sleep. You may find one that's causing the
problem.

Thanks for the replys so far. the motherboard settings are set right at s3.I
have been right through the device manager ,there are no conflicts and set
this device to wake is selected for each divice that is listed that has this
setting available to it.Includinging some of the bus controllers, I have
tried umpteen variations in power management all to no avail. The real puzzle
i think is that it wont even wake to record a timed event, that seems unusual
from the issues other people have.Funnily enough useing a device to send it
into sleep is not an issue. I can't see anywhere in the event log where or
why the event failed. the only other clue that something is not right is as i
said on my first post, on the power state mapping for some devices s3 =d2
instead what i think should be d3.please keep the responses coming i really
appreciate the help

See if there is a bios update for your motherboard that addresses this
condition.

Hi Richard I have downloaded and installed the latest bios prior to my first
post.I have also emailed asus for technical support without response todate.
i have paid particuler attention to the jumper positions and am confident
they are set correctly. I have also reformatted and reloaded vista but again
exactly the same problem.

That is a very well written tutorial,and thank you for the suggestion, i
would love someone to suggest something of that quility that i havent tried.
I am sorry to say that I have worked my way through that one without success
but really appreciate the thoughts so please keep them coming
