Default 2 GB SD Card showing as 1 GB after Format

Hi,
I purchased new SD Card. In XP machine the total volume of the card was
shown as 2 GB. When I placed the same SD card in Vista Home it asked me
to format the SD card. After formatting the total volume is showing up
as only 965 MB. I tried re formatting it using FAT, FAT32 in both vista
& XP machines. But still it is showing up as 965 MB. Any help would be
really appreciated.
Thanks
Masthi

Are you sure it asked you to format and not to use as a readyboost device?
If it was a readyboost device it will have created a file and used some of
the space.
You can check in the device properties.

Hi,
It is a Micro SD Card. I am using it in my Motorola Mobile device
connected to my Vista computer using USB cable. When I plugged the USB
cable into my laptop it asked to me format and it never said any thing
about ready boost.

You need to check the card.. there were(are?) some fake cards on ebay where
someone was writing the format from a 2g card to smaller ones and selling
them. They would revert back to what they were if formatted correctly. Look
for printing on the plastic and see if you can id the card.

Can't really help but I have the same problem and haven't been able to find a
fix.

In my case the problem is with a Pentax Optio S4 Camera. I can format thte
card in the camera to 2Gb, it will then work fine and be recognised by XP as
2Gb if I connect the camera to a PC running XP. Under Vista however, it
prompts you to format the card and then formats it to 1Gb so you lose half
the capacity of the card. I've heard that this happens with some card readers
and cameras. I have two PCs running Vista (one business, one home premium)
both patched via automatic update and both have the same problem. XP and
Server 2003 work fine.

I'd really like MS to fix this.
