Default XP drive letter changed after vista install

Ok , heres the story...

using a tutorial i found I set up a dual boot system by installing
vista then xp, both installed without a problem, vista is on drive C:
and XP was on drive F: and was able to boot into either. The DVD drives
on D and E.

to cut a long story short, i had to re-install vista and after doing so
Vista now shows the XP localdrive as drive "D" and the DVD drives are
now drives E and F.
This cant be good for the programs ive already installed on XP when it
was drive F

i cant boot into XP anymore. I get that "\NTLDR missing" error msg.

Any help would be great.

Go to.. Computer > (right click) Manage > (storage) Disk Management..

You can reassign drive letter for everything BUT the boot drive

Default Re: XP drive letter changed after vista install

I just installed XPPro(SP2) then Vista while in XP. I though this was the
way. The vista loader took my XXXXX-XXXXX- ...; went through several reboots
then asked me for my XXXXX- again. Sure enough, the drive letters were
reassigned and no multiboot screen.

I have a 150 GB HDD partitioned w/ XP into three 50 GB partitions:
C: XP SP2 was running with all updates.
D: I designated this as the Vista Install.
E: data

Now C: is vista; D: is XP with no multiboot during power-on boot nor within
Vista>System. I found some reference in Help>multiboot that ended in
/FORCE.
It didn't fix anything, apparently.

Is there a way to fix this without spending another 8 hours doing a clean
install of XPPro (SP2) then Vista (Home Premium)?

Or how can I avoid this during the clean installs?

Thanks.
