Default Wireless connection from main desktop to a laptop

I recently purchased a desktop PC as well as a new laptop. I disconnected
the old desktop and replaced it with the new without any problems. However,
I am unable to figure out how to get my laptop to use the wireless service
from my desktop. I have a modem that came with the PC, but it is not getting
the signal. The directions are vague and do not seem to meet the criteria of
my situation. Any thoughts on this? Im sure it is simple, but I am
frustrated.

You don't use a modem to connect to wireless. You need to use a wireless
network card in the laptop and an optional-but highly recommended-wireless
router to connect the 2 computers. The desktop doesn't have wireless service.
You can connect the dektop to the router with an ethernet cable while the
laptop connects wirelessly. The cable or dsl modem connects to the router.
You need to research Setting up a Wireless network. Start by looking this up
in Network & Sharing Center Help. Here's another source of info:

You left out a few critical details, such as, what type of Internet service
do you have? Dial-up, DSL, cable modem?
