Hi all,
I'm really at a loss here. I've tried every solution I can find on
the web, I've turned off or unplugged anything not absolutely
necessary to installing, I've manually set the CPU values, I've
throttled my RAM down to 800 (half its speed, wtf?), I've even gone
through the lengthy process of slipstreaming SP1 into a new Vista
image (which works, by the way, thank you vLite), EVERYTHING, and I
get as far as Vista being installed and I get either a freeze or a
bluescreen. My specs are below, any ideas???
-P5Q3 Deluxe/WiFi-AP @n
-Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 w/Arctic Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler
-PowerColor ATI 3870 800Mhz 1GB DDR4 (AX3870X21GBD4PH RT)
-OCZ 2GBx2 1600 (OCZ3P16004GK) (Well, one is bad right now, but in the
end both will be installed)
-Western Digital Velociraptor 300GB 10KRPM Hard Drive
-Samsung SATA DVD Burner
-Antec 850W PSU

Some piece of hardware is failing/bad. Without knowing what the blue screen
said, that's all I can guess. Doesn't matter if the hardware is new; in
fact hardware will tend to fail very soon or go for years. Start testing
or, depending on your desire and level of computer skill, take the machine
to a local professional for testing. I don't recommend using a
BigComputerStore/GeekSquad type of place.
Did you insure that you have the latest BIOS for your MOBO installed. Some
MOBO manufacturers have released BIOS updates for VISTA in the last couple
of months.
Also I would not try to use a slipstream version until you know that you can
install your Full Retail standard version first/
Some users have reported that a Vista install would not work if their HDD
was not connected to the SATA #1 connector on their MOBO.

Do not use unsupported/none standard install media.
Since there is no Microsoft supported method of making a "slipstreamed"
Vista SP1 DVD you should use only real/original pre or already integrated
SP1 media from Microsoft.
If you are not even using real media and you have not provided details of
the blue screen message then any form of trouble shooting of your problems
are difficult at best.

If this is the case of using 4 GB of RAM or more then you'll need to
slipstream a hot fix after sp1. I had to do this to get my 64 bit
version to install. sp1 alone didn't fix it eather. Hot fix is
Windows6.0-KB929777-v2-x64. make sure to check apply hot fix during
install.

Hi all,
Thank you for your suggestions. The last time Vista almost installed
I got a green screen (yes, green) with a little garbage at the top,
and somehow it erased my BIOS settings. I didn't realize this until I
tried installing again, and so my RAM settings were not set correctly
and none of the peripheral devices were disabled, and the install
failed again. Once I realized and set the BIOS correctly, everything
went smoothly!
