In XP I had fax console. Where is it in Vista. I have been all through the
program files and don't see it. Does this self install with the installation
of Vista, or must I add it from the installation DVD.
There also seems to be something called windows fax and scan, but Ican't
find that either.
Please advise

Maybe the following articles will offer some ideas.
Fax and scan is NOT in Home Premium; it is in Business and Ultimate. Try
snapppyfax or BVRP_phonetools. Better yet, get an All-in-one; no fax
software needed.

Are you running Vista Business, Enterprise or Ultimate on your machine? If
not and you are running only Home or Premium then Fax is not available to
you. The fax option is available in Business, Enterprise and Ultimate only.
If you are running Vista Home or premium you will need to look for a third
party fax application.

I’ve used all of these. Snappy fax screen look a bit crude but the product
actually is fairly feature rich and works fine. BVRP also works fine,
screen looks a little better. Other than that, there are minor differences
in performance between the two.

Might be as simple as turning it on by adding the 'feature'. Control Panel
-> Programs -> Programs and Features -> Turn Windows features on or off
Check the box for Windows Fax and Scan, then click OK.

Windows Fax is only available in Vista Business, Ultimate and Enterprise. If
you have Vista Home or Premium then you will need to buy a third party fax
application.
