Well the Ultimate full version keeps asking for a driver for some
reason. SATA WD Cavier SE16 Model WD2500KSRTL installed as drive D in an
ACER E700 with an Intel Quad core Q6600 processor and 3072 gigs of ram.

For some reason Vista Ultimate can't figure it out!

I believe that some later M/B chip sets have the SATA drivers hard encoded
in the silicon chip. It would make all the difference in the world. If you
do not have this implementation on your M/B "you" must supply the drivers,
as they are needed before the operating can begin to load.

Also, when you install Windows Vista, when you get to the point where
you select the drive to install to, you can use the option to "Install
Driver". You should then be able to se your SATA drive.

Windows XP used to require an OEM driver on floppy disk, but I
understand that Vista can load drivers at this point from almost any
type of media, such as CD-ROM, Flash Drive, etc.

Include the old floppy in that list also.

Any change you have AHCI enabled? If so, either disable it or install
the correct drivers.

Hi,

It can and does quite regularly.

What motherboard or SATA solution is being used on your PC?

I bet it's a "non-Native" solution which means that you need supply the
drivers at install time to ensure that Windows can use the controller and
see drives attached to it.

Kind Regards

Simon
