It is in an unbootable state right now.
I am posting from another computer.
After apparently downloading and beginning the upgrade, it just stops, with
a message sort of like:
!! 0xc09000 HelpPane.exe !!
on the screen. I am actually not sure of the numbers; only the
HelpPane.exe part and the double exlaimation points.
Now What !?!?!?!?
I can't believe MS managed to completely blow this AGAIN after all the
problems with Vista initially.
My 1 year old computer is a worthless brick right now.
I can't be the only one with this problem. I am fuming right now. How can
MS fix this ?!?!

I"f your Microsoft product was already installed on your computer when you
purchased it, contact your computer manufacturer to see if no-charge support
is available to you. (View Contact information) Support for preinstalled
products is available from Microsoft for a fee. Some issues may require more

Microsoft should be begging us for forgiveness ! Reports of this SP1
debacle are all over the internet now.
My computer is just about a week outside my 1-year support warranty. That
is no excuse for Microsoft to be able to blow it up without taking
responsibility !

OK ! I will ignore what they wrote, and try to get some support.
But isn't this an example of exactly what causes all MS problems to begin
with ? i.e. nobody proofreads their statemts (or their code) to make sure it
really says what they want it to ?
Just a word to the wise.....

You just said in another thread you were using another computer since your
VISTA SP1 was hosed and you also answered in this thread. Do you not have
"chat" available on this computer?

Yes, I could "chat" from this computer. But since I can't see the error
messages on my other computer, all I could say is "it won't boot".
Now that I know about the chat helpline, I will try to bring the final error
message (which I wrote down) to this computer.
You see, people who play with computers for a living seem to think that we
all have access to multiple computers easily. It just isn't so for a common
user.
Also, admittedly, there will probably be a solution. But think of the hrs,
multiplied by how many computers got disabled....and Microsoft just says "Oh,
use our chat line."
oh, I'm with ya. We're just here to try and help as much as we can. Good
luck.

So, I try to use the chat line;
After going to all the trouble of filling in all the info blanks, and fully
typing in a description of the problem, I hit the "Next" button, and all I
get is this:
"An unknown application error occurred. Please try again in a few minutes."
