vista key

i have a vista home basic system. the recovery dvd is on the hard drive.
(system is the oem version.)

can the key work with both the oem and retail version.
i would like to have a dvd backup to restore from. (retail version would be
best.)

both oem and retail vista dvd's can be obtained from bit torrent.
