Default Vista installation hangs after first reboot.

I'm having issues trying to upgrade from XP Pro to Vista Ultimate.
Upgrade advisor says my system can handle Vista just fine. I pop-in the DVD
and it says it might have some issues with the printer and some cellphones I
used to connect to the PC but other than that all is well. I continue with
installation, it copies files and whatnot and then it reboots (which it is
supposed to do). However, the installation hangs on the Windows Vista loading
bar. It just stays there forever. No error message, nothing.

I've tried it twice now and both times the exact same thing happened. The
first time as an upgrade the second time as a clean install on my second hard
drive.

I googled my problem but found no real help. Do any of you have any clue how
I can get it to install?

Thanks

1. You should disable your Anti-virus(preferably uninstall it if you have the
reinstall media) when doing an upgrade.

Also, disconnect all USB devices except your mouse and keyboard; and
printers and phones!

2. When you were trying to do a clean Vista install to your 2nd hard drive,
you were installing it from the running XP Pro version drive?

I'll try unplugging everything except for monitor and mouse. I'll let you
know how that works out.

and when I tried to install it on my 2nd my drive, I was running XP Pro and
from within it ran the Install Windows app from the DVD.

That is the easy way to install. Have XP Pro running, pop in the DVD, and get
it to install on the 2nd drive

Don't forget your Keyboard for F8, the acceptance!

During installation it asks for acceptance of the licence agreement. You hit F8

I tried it and it didn't work. Unplugged all usb peripherals except for
keyboard and mouse. Uninstalled the anti-virus, and still, after the first
reboot, it won't go past the Vista loading screen.
