hi, i am having a nightmare trying to install vista business. my computer
passes the upgrade advisor perfectly but when i a) try to upgrade from XP SP2
i get the error message 0xE0000100 failed to read from source and b) on a
clean install it says press any key to boot from DVD then a bar scrolls
across the screen to the end and stops. 24 hours later it is still there. im
really lost, i cant even get it to install let alone run. Please, somebody
help?

Yes, all of my hardware is vista compatable. Running a AMD64 athlon 3000+,
4Gb Ram, ATI Radeon 600, 80GB HDD, DVD-RW.

This is just me, unless you're doing an upgrade from Vista to Vista, like
Premium to Ultimate, then you should consider just wiping out/format the HD
and do a fresh install of the O/S, to avoid problems of a somewhat
different O/S exiting on the HD.
When moving to a different O/S like ME to Win 2k or Win 2K to XP on the same
machine, I just wipe out the existing O/S and do a fresh install.
If the upgrade CD for Vista allows you to format the HD and then lay down
the O/S fresh, then you might want to consider that.
