Default Viewing MSWord apps/graphics via email attachents

I’ve recently purchased an HP Laptop with Windows Vista and have discovered
that, when I uninstall an application by accident or on purpose, I can
recover it for future usage. Especially if my system came with it, such as
MSOffice 2003 or 7. I’ve noticed I’m not able to do that with my older model
HP Pavilion desktop (obviously) in some instances but it does have System
Recovery.

My aunt has an older model desktop as well. She’s deleted, instead of
disabling, the MSWorks application when she loaded her MSOffice 2003 apps and
now, when she tries to receive emails containing other MSWord, Access,
PowerPoint, Excel…..items, she receives an error message during downloading
of the attachments that say its “..unable to complete download due to
compatibility issues and unrecognized programs.”

She’s running Windows XP and I’ve tried just about everything to help her
view documents that I’m sending with/without attachments but, nothings
working. She can create documents with Word and send them and I’ll receive
them but she’s not able to likewise.

What are we doing wrong? Please keep in mind, besides the differences in
both programs (MSWordMSWorks), she was able to view documents before. Just
without the graphics if the downloaded Word doc contained them. Now, she
can’t even receive them.

Thank you for your assistance

You didn't say what version of Office you are using. If it's 2007,
you need to save your files in 2003 format if you want her to be able
to use them. 2007 uses a completely different format.

I apologize....I am also using 2003. I originally sent them to her using 2007
and was told to try 03. She still isn't able to view the documents.

I don't understand... 2003 can't save in 2007 format.

My aunt was using MSWorks when I originally sent her the documents using 2007
(which is what I created them in orginally)...she couldn't see the graphics
(which I figured). They weren't lenghty so, I deactivate my 2007 and
re-created them again using 2003....she still couldn't veiw the graphics
(these were the important items in the doc).

She uploaded the MSOffice 2003 software, deleted (accidentally) MSWorks, and
I tried sending the documents again only this time, we recieved the
aforementioned errors for each document. In others words, she's not able to
even complete the downloading of the apps for viewing at all.

You need to take this to a group that specializes in Office
problems... you will find people there who specialize in helping with
Office problems.

If it's MS Word:

microsoft.public.word.newusers

or for a group with wider scope:

microsoft.public.office.misc

Thank you LORD.

If all else fails, I'll have she use this app.

Thank you Paul for your assistance. I try that before having her use the
OpenOffice app.

Appreciate you help.
