Default Viewing Dish Network on Vista Media Center

I have a Dell XPS 410 with 2G RAM, Vista, and a dual TV tuner, hooked up to
the house's coax system.

When we had cable, I was able to watch and record regular cable channels
with no problem.

We dumped Communistcast, and went with ATT / Dish Network.

The dish receiver is a dual tuner Dish 322. The second tuner outputs a
signal to the house coax system, and can be picked up on any attached TV,
with the tuner set to channel 60.

That is except for my Dell. I can't get the TV tuner to pick up the channel
60 signal.

Any ideas as to how to configure Media Center to pick up channel 60?

Thanks in advance

well, googling my way across the internet, looking for the same exact
answer, i can only assume it's not a good thing that this question
remains unanswered from so long ago. if anyone has any info on this
sort of thing, i'd really appreciate hearing what's up.

quickly, this is my girlfriend's setup, and her apartment just got new
dish network dishes. she was running on a very old set top box before,
which was running through an external tuner to a laptop, and working as
advertised. now she's got no set top box, running off a dual tuner set
top box that is god knows where. but, in my opinion, there should be no
difference in this setup when compared to her previous one. the old one
was split after the set top box to the tv and the tuner, the new way can
ONLY be split after the set top box, since it is not physically in the
apartment. yet the tuner and media center (vista) do not recognize any
signal at all.

like i said, any light anyone can shed on this would be much
appreciated. i hate letting my lady down! help me act like like i know
what i'm doing!

I was just off the phone with Dish with this problem. Using the new
receiver's with two TV capibility from ONE box, means Media Center has a
problem. Running the coax into the video card, and running Media Center,
you'll get a blue screen (because channel three is no longer valid for the
Dish video feed into the second TV.). My Dish remote control was setup for
channel 73- if you manually, using your Media Center remote, go to the
channel your dish remote is set for, you will see the Dish video feed- in my
case channel 73.
Dish says the second TV remote will not go lower than channel 21, so it
looks like we are stuck with manually configuring Media Center's default
channel to Dish's default remote's channel and then using the Dish remote to
operate within the Media Center. This does work, but each time Media Center
is closed and restarted, you'll have , at Media Center startup (blue screen),
push in manually the Dish remote's default channel using Media Center's
remote.

Unless someone else has a work around? Dish says to run the computer with
Media Center hooked up to the main Dish box- TV1, since it is setup to
channel 3 default.
What a crock- lost some functionality by upgrading for more money and a
contract.

Good Luck.

Default Re: Viewing Dish Network on Vista Media Center

Well - the below articles helped me for sure and they are appreciated.

I have a brand new DELL XPS 420 and the newer version of Media Center
(Vista). I could not under any situation or scenario get the Media
Center to program my DISH signal from a coax cable using the Dell
supplied internal TV tuner. Frustrated I went to this site where I
learned that I was not the only one having issues. Here is my story and
I hope it helps others.

1st - I called DELL and requested their help. No luck at all.

2nd - Still frustrated, I called DELL again (the next day) and talked
to a reasonable technician in the U.S., but he really did not understand
what I was trying to do.

3rd - I called DISH technical support. These people are very food and
know their business well. I have never called DISH when I did not get a
reasonable person that was willing to help me through the issues.

Here is how DISH and I easily corrected the program issues with Media
Center. The Dell supplied internal TV tuner coupled with Media Center
can ONLY be programmed with certain DISH channels (2,3,4) using a coax
cable.

The set-top box from DISH that I was using was my #2 set-top box. It
was not the main box that is a DVR. Furthermore, I was using the coax
for the
2nd TV on this #2 set-top box. This 2nd TV remote is programmed from
DISH to receive only upper channels. It cannot be programmed for 2,3,4
channels. Only the 1st remote can receive channels 2,3,4. I physically
moved and connected the DISH 2nd set-top box to my office where my DELL
was located. I also brought that remote to my office.

When I went into Media Center set-up it took 5 minutes to program the
DISH signal.

Bottom line is: If you want Media Center to program your DISH signal,
you can easily do this by making sure you have the set-top box (either
the DVR box or the satellite box) directly connected to your PC and you
use remote #1
