Hi all... I'm an experienced user/builder with a question about what I'm up
against in a coming hardware upgrade...
Here's what I'm planning to do... I bought the Vista Business upgrade last
year for my, then, XP Pro machine. I'm ready to upgrade some of the hardware:
Mobo, Processor, RAM and Video Card. I'm currently running a dual SATA HDD
RAID 0 for my C drive, which I will keep.
Here are my questions, for which I hope someone has answers...
1. I have never migrated a system using a RAID. Will the SATA RAID still
work on a new mobo (different manufacturer) that supports SATA RAID 0?
2. If the RAID is recognized, can I boot to the current OS install and just
let Vista remove the old hardware that is no longer present and prompt for
new drivers?
3. Will the retail Vista Business upgrade allow me to migrate to new
hardware like this?
Nathan, before we go any further with this, you can not do it.
Vista does not have repair setup like XP had when you changed a mobo.
You will have to do a clean reinstall, as vista will consider what you are
doing to be putting the hard drive in another computer, as there is/will be
such a major hardware change.

You realise raid 0 has no redundency?
There are not many circumstances where you can migrate an array to different
hardware (controlers)
