Default Strange install problem

I'll try tio be brief

Built a new pc high spec (n680 dq6, 8800gtx, e6850 etc) installed vista
hp 64 from scratch and the system ran for a week or so with a few
freezes.

Gradually had startup problems and eventually wont boot into windows at
all. I've so far swapped out all components except mobo and cpu. Tried
running outside of case also. RMAd the mobo, cpu and ram which the
supplier tested (under XP) said was fine and sent back.

Inserted 64 vista CD and gets to the installing files white line to the
end then no signal and restarts. Tried XP cd and it works fine and even
deleted the partition and installed XP.

So tried deleting the partition again, create new partition (RAW)
insert vista 64 disc, same cycle, cannot get it to install or get to the
options screen at all??

I have swapped out everything including PSU and all sata cables etc.

Firstly i dont suspect the CPU as surely it wouldnt run perfectly in
vista would it?

Secondly is there a sepearts 32bit and 64bit controller within the mobo
wherby the 64bit controller may have failed?

Any help appreciated

thanks

Did you make any hardware changes between the original install and the
problem installs? It sounds like you are experiencing a driver problem.
Make sure you are using the correct 64-bit drivers for your hardware.

Hi
Thanks for the reply.
The original hardware had not changed but i managed to get hold of
another CPU to swap out prior to swapping the mobo.

The new CPU worked fisrst time and installed Vista64 all the way and is
now working fine. The CPU which was taken out was put into a known
working PC with dual boot vista64 and XP on separate HDDs. It would not
boot into vista and showed the same failure cycle as in the other
machine yet when switching to XP it worked!

Must be a controller in the CPU blown?
