Had hard drive wiped and re-installed with Windows Vista. Trying to
re-install the drivers/software for my HP 7200 series All-in-One printer.
It always stops half way thru installation and cancels. Says "sofware cannot
be instaled as a 'Run as', then tells me to log off and log back on as user
with adminstrator priveleges or contact system administrator".
Okay this is a personal laptop, I am the only user, I checked on user
accounts and yes I am also the 'administrator'.
Tried opening CD up under 'my computer' right clicking on setup.exe and "run
as administrator" yet it still fails at the same point with same error
message.
PS. Called Windows Vista support and was told could not be helped without
paying another 59.00 dollars although I just paid a huge amount this week to
upgrade.

Have you contacted HP for assistance with their product? It sounds
very much as if the installation software isn't Vista-compatible.
HP won't help. Got 2 hour run around from their customer service. Since my
printer is more than 1 year old they will not help me unless I pay another
fee. Printer is not the issue, it worked fine until installed Vista.

I have to presume that you are trying to reinstall from the original HP
Printer's CD.
If I am correct, that is an XP Driver.
Go to HP's website, and download the vista compatible Driver for you model
printer.
Save it to your Desktop.
Right-click it, and run as admin to install..

The 7200 is certified for use with Vista, however earlier CD versions do not
contain upgraded drivers for Vista. Available for via www.hp.com are
upgraded drivers and an utility for Diagnosing problems.

Actually, it's the printer drivers and HP's software that *are* the
issue. If you don't have software and device drivers designed by the
manufacturer (HP) specifically for whatever operating system you use,
regardless if it's WinXP, Vista, or Linux, the printer will not work.
HP's decision not to support their own product is your problem, not Vista.
