Default ram quierie

Howdy.

Just had a new computer built.
running vista
It has 4 gb of ram
512mb pci graphics
2.4 quad core
160gb h/d
5.1 on board sound card and Ethernet

my problem seems that the ram only shows 3.25gb.
Can someone explain why this might be the case.

Cheers

That's about all the the 32bit version of Vista can support...
if you want to use more RAM you will need the 64bit version of Vista

You are running the 32 bit version of Vista. 32 OS's can only address 4 GB
of memory. That 4 GB includes video memory, I/O, BIOS, and finally RAM. So,
your machine will only "see" what is left after the other hardware reserves
its addresses in that 4 GB, which is ~3.2GB.
