I am trying to install my Canon i470D. When I click on "Windows Update" the
"next" button briefly lights up and then goes grey again. Task manager show
that install printer is running, but I can't get to the next step and nothing
gets installed.

Go to canon's website, and see if they have a Vista compatible driver for
your exact printer model.
Download and save it to your Desktop.
Also, read the instructions for installing their printers.
Whether connect printer 1st, then load software; or the other way around.
Double-click on the desktop file to install the printer driver.
