I've never been to the UK or to Europe. But I'd like to go there. I'm a
native Okie (from Oklahoma), but I lived in California and now in Texas for
18 years each.
I don't know nuthin' 'bout no impedances or attenuators, but I wrote a 13 KB
program in that TRS-80's 4K Level I BASIC to compute income taxes in
1977-78, long before TurboTax (which you Brits may have heard about). When
I left my CPA firm in California in 1980, my partners were still using the
upgraded version of that (in Level II BASIC by then). Yes, the TRS-80 ran
the Z80 CPU from Zilog; they put that "80" together with the initials for
Tandy Radio Shack to create "TRS-80". Later they called mine the Model I.
I still have the original "preliminary" owner's manual, still with the
yellow slip that says, "When we get the real manual printed, we'll send it
to you."
In 1980, I actually SAW an Apple III! And years later, I saw a Lisa! My
slightly-modified Tandy 2000 (80186, 786 KB RAM, SyJet cartridge drive) is
still in my closet; hasn't been plugged in in a decade or more.
I miss the days when we could buy a computer magazine and type in a program
from there and run it to do something fun or useful. Nowadays, computer
magazines don't tell us HOW to DO something. Just what to BUY. They're
just slick catalogs.
Oh, well. 'Nuff reminiscing for today. The youngsters here are getting
bored. ;^}
