Installing Visual Studio 2005 Std Ed, SQL Server 2005 Expr./Compac

Hi,

I just bought a new HP laptop equiped with Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2Go
DDR2 memory and Windows VISTA Home premium edition.

Having played around with it for 2 weeks now, I'm looking forward to
install Visual Studio 2005 Standard Edition along with SQL Server 2005
Express and Compact Editions.

When I have to choose between the different version of install programs
available on the NET, I'm not quite sure which one is the most suitable for
the configuration I currently have. Which must I choose IA64, x64 or x86?

You need the version compatible with your OS. Your hardware has nothing to
do with it.

So, do you have the 32 or 64 bit version of Vista Home Premium?

If it's 32, choose x86. If it's 64, choose x64.

Maybe my answer might be silly, but how do I check if it is 32 or 64 bits?

I would have thought the documentation or media that came with your new HP
would have that information, but you can open your start menu, then
right-click on Computer. The dialog that appears will show the edition of
Vista you are running, and if it's 64 bit, it will say so. If there's no
mention of 64 bit , you have 32 bit.
Please note the above is to the best of my recollection, as I've not seen a
64 bit installation in over a month. I'm sure somebody here will correct me
if I'm wrong

Many thanks for sharing infos. Following your suggestion, I went into
"control panel" then "System and maintenance" and finally "System" and could
see well detailed that my operating system is 32 bits.
