do I have to unistall vista to install Windows XP?

I'm not to familiar with the aspect of computers. I have just purchased a new
laptop which of course has trial Office 2007 programes. i really dont feel
lke spending all that $ for a complete version when I have the Windows XP
program ready here to install. When I run the compatibility wizard it of
course says it's not compatible. Do I have to take Vista off completly and
if so how do I do that?

You can uninstall the trial version of Office 2007, and then install Office
2002 (XP), or 2003, I assume that is what you mean.

Installing Windows XP on the laptop won't get you Office, as it isn't, nor
has ever been included with Windows. It may of been bundled with a previous
computer by the manufacturer, but that would only apply to that machine and
wouldn't be transferable.

You seem to have operating systems confused with applications. Office
2007 is an application (a suite of office programs); Vista and Windows
XP are operating systems. Operating systems run programs. I think - but
am not sure - that what you are really asking is how to use the older
Office XP (also known as Office 2002) in Vista. This can be done and has
nothing to do with the operating system. You can leave Vista on,
uninstall the trial Office 2007, and install Office XP. The only Office
XP program that has issues in Vista is Outlook, which will not remember
passwords. If you don't use Outlook then you don't need to install it.

2002 under Vista, and can they be fixed with updates, or is a new version
required?

Outlook 2002 has some issues, like not remembering the email account
username/passwords.
Outlook 2003 and newer work ok.

As I said in the post that you quoted, Outlook 2002 (Office XP) will not
remember passwords. This will not be fixed. If you use Outlook, it would
be better to upgrade to the current version of MS Office.
