Default Adobe Reader

When I want to open a file from a email (a pdf) my computer gives a response
that I have no a standardprogram to open this.

But when I go to add Adobe Reader 8.1 as a standard program, I cannot find
it on the list.

If I save the file from the email, I can open it from where I saved it
without any problems. But how can it be, that I cannot do it directly? Anyone
got a clue?
