Strange screen size/position

This has been puzzling me ever since I bought this new PC (Quad Core
Q9450 2.66 GHz, 4 GB under XP Pro) a year or so ago and I really would
now like to get to the bottom of it.

When I maximise any of my windows (any application or window of any
type), instead of neatly filling my screen at (0,0) with a size of
1920 x 1200 they always go to (-4,-4) with a size of 1928 x 1180.

Why, and can I fix it please? It's obviously not life threatening, but
I use macros and scripts occasionally and sometimes these fail
unexpectedly because of this small difference.

It's an Iiyama ProLite E2403WS widescreen monitor, with 512 MB nVIDIA
GeoForce 8800GT.

Any advice from either newsgroup would be much appreciated please.

Are you using the latest version of graphics drivers?
Are you using a DVI or VGA connection?
If VGA does the monitor have an 'auto tune/auto setup' option that might
get the picture centralised? If not are there any monitor adjustments you
can try (accepting you may have spend a year adjusting them)?
Are you using single/dual monitors?

It's a Windows/driver issue, not related to monitor adjustment, as it's
displaying beyond the /logical/ screen, not the visible screen.
