Default Problems wit Mindview 4-port KVM Switch

I have a mindview 4-port KVM switch that simply stops working when I go
startx in order to start the X window systemin in Linux

It all started after setting up on my BIOS the video buffer to 8 MBs, which
I had to do in order to get my display to render fonts properly (they would
be really huge otherwise). The three only options the BIOS has are 512,
1024 and 8192 KBs

Why did this happened? How could I fix this problem?

If I need a newer model, would you suggest one that has PS/2 Keyword ports
and works fine with most video chips that Linux/knoppix plays well with?

Thanks
