Was attempting a backup using a USB hard drive on my still fairly new T43,
and got the message that IBM Rescue and Recovery encountered an error and
needed to close. Some checking revealed that I have V2.0 of Rescue and
Recovery (aack!) It still seemed to run the backup, but only took up +/-
5GB for the 17 GB I have on C:\. Also, tried setting up Client Software
Solutions and it bombed at the very end, when the system told me that it did
not receive a valid response from the applicaton and the application had
terminated. Now that option (Client Security Software) is no longer
available when I open the ThinkVantage application. Any ideas as to what's
going on here, anyone? Bought this refurbished T43 from an indiviual on
eBay who now offers no support. I have a SquareTrade extended warranty on
it, but believe that just covers hardware. Am I just SOL here, or is there
some hope for updating my software and actually being able to do serious
backups? *Any* help is greatly appreciated.

Alright, the problem seems to be that Rescue & Recovery 2.0 wasn't
compatible (sp?) with any semi current version of Client Software Solutions.
Had to do some updates, and am now stymied. How do I make sure that there
are at least 8MB of shared VRAM set up in the BIOS? I guess I'll play with
it some more. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

According to what I read on the Lenovo website, the BIOS setup utility
should be available when I start the machine in Rescue and Recomery mode, as
an option I can select. Only it's not. Do I have to have RnR 4.2 for this?
I'm working with 4.0, and Cient Software Sulutions 8.0, I believe. sigh
Onward though the fog...

Forget R&R mode, just hit F1 during POST and access BIOS to set shared
RAM....

Why not just use Acronis Trueimage?
I find it works just fine on a T43, backing up to a USB external drive.

1. Costs money.
2. Less capable than ThinkVantage Rescue & Recovery.

Two good reasons, certainly - I'll have to investigate this R&R.
Even though I am already well familar with Acronis..

ThinkVantage R&R is full enterprise-grade backup and restore.
