interchangability of hd

I want to get a bigger capacity hard drive for our ibm 600x thinkpad laptop
and
was thinking of getting one thru ebay. Will pretty much any 2.5" drive fit
into it?

Yes, any that is less than 19mm thick, which and all modern ones are. But
whether that is a useful use of money is questionable.

What OS, how much memory and which speed CPU are in yours?

Of course, you would need a PATA(older) drive and not the SATA(newer)
drive.

I don't know of any physical or OS limit to just those.

I understood the OP's wish is to replace his present hard drive and not to
add a second drive.

Try apricorn.com, I have gotten several drives from them, they have
the specs and can provide drives for most laptops.
