To you. Not to me. Not to my clients.

John, back in April, I recall getting a message from Lenovo, when my
system hung while I was trying to use TV System Update, saying that
app was dead and Lenovo was going to be offering a different way to
update the TV apps. The message said the new way was supposed to be
available in May. I haven't heard anything since. How and where did
you get the latest version of TR&R, and updates for all the rest of
the TV apps?
Also, was that an affirmative on it being safe to delete the 'Service'
partition? What's in it?

Just a p.s. to my question. I did install Acronis True Image and
successfully created an image of both the System partition and the
Service partition on an external HD.
Question, does TR&R essentially produce images, like ATI, or does it
produce Restore Points, like XP?
Never did understand the difference between what R&R (or ATI) creates
and Restore Points. Anyone care to explain?

The System Update service was restored by early June, has worked since
then, and can be used for updates to ThinkPads apps, including TR&R.

The service partition contains diagnostics and a disk image that can be
used to restore the disk to the original contents. I recommend keeping
it, but it can be deleted safely if you don't want those things.

TR&R is a full-blown backup and restore program, not just an imaging
program, that can restore an entire disk or just individual files.
It supports both full and incremental backups, automated operation, and
much more.

ATI is a straightforward disk imaging program. TR&R is more efficient
for regular backups.
System Restore (restore points) just protect certain disk areas and
allow you to roll them back to an earlier state. It can be useful, but
is much less capable than the other tools.

If you want to be sure a backup will work reliably and as intended, disk
imaging is the ONLY way to go.

OK John, got it installed, updated my system and did several
rechecks. There seems to be a problem with a 'Critical' patch for
R&R.
Installed updates shows that 'R&R Critical Patch for Windows Update
(KB917422)' as being installed, yet every time I search for updates,
there it is again, demanding to be installed. Seems to be a problem
someplace.
Is it my system, or is the problem on Lenovo's end?

Imaging is cloning.
Boot from the USB or replace the failed drive with the imaged drive.
