Default Does Vista run on a T42 with ATI MOBILITY RADEON 7500?

Dear all,

I have a T42 Type 2373WC with a built in ATI MOBILITY RADEON 7500 and think
about to upgrade to Windows VISTA.

To check the compatibility I run the WINDOWS VISTA UPGRADE ADVISOR from the
Microsoft web page
(http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro...deadvisor.mspx)
and got a result what confuses me.

In the System Details Tab is stated regarding Video Card "Your current video
card will not support the Windows AeroT user experience." but in the Driver
Tab there is stated regarding the "ATI MOBILITY RADEON 7500" that "This
device will not work in Windows Vista."

Hmm, so does this mean my RADEON 7500 will not work at all and as a
consequence VISTA will not run or only limited???

Could somebody please explain to me who knows about or has experience in
upgrading a T42 w/ ATI MOBILITY RADEON 7500 to VISTA what this means and
which (main) feature will run or not with Vista?

Thanks

Claus

Vista _will_ run, but you will _not_ be able to use the new Aero
interface.

On my T42 vista installed, and I had a green-board in the device manager (no
errors).

However, performance was horrific, and I was unable to find any indication
Lenovo will be providing updated drivers for this machine for Vista.

Considering the T42 isn't that old, this is really a shame.

I'm back to XP on mine.

The Lenovo web site has Vista drivers for the T42.

All this means is you will not be able to use the Aero interface. I have a
T42p with 1gb of RAM and a 1.8ghz CPU and Vista runs just great. I have been
running Vista on this machine since Beta 1 as my Vista test machine.

Make sure you have plenty of memory and Vista should run just fine. If you
need drivers Lenovo has them on the website now.

Why would you care all that much? Vista isn't much more than XP warmed
over with a new set of issues and increased resource consumption.
I plan to keep on using XP for years to come.

That's a completely different conversation best left for another thread.

But the short answer is, because I want to.

That is, of course, a perfectly good reason.
And it wasn't my intention to start a ****ing contest.
I was frankly just curious. The number of people
rushing to Vista frankly surprises me, and perhaps
I'm missing something important.

Nothing but the ability of MS to repackage something and call it "new", and
the gullibility of the average computer user.

I believe you've mentioned elsewhere that you'll wait for Vista to mature
before considering making a switch, a wise decision.

XP ain't broken so it doesn't need to be "fixed".
