Default question on value of gear

Gents,

I'm going to sell some gear as I'm in upgrade mode and I just wondered if
you can give me some idea of what I should expect to see when I sell this
stuff

Qty :2

Sun E250 Deskside configurations
2x400 Cpu
2gb RAM
6x36 gb drives
Remote card
Emulex LP1000 Card W/ GBIC's
DVD FDD Mammoth M2 internal tape drives ( 65 tapes, three unopened cleaning
tapes all are new sealed) Ten open tapes and one open cleaning tape
Side SCSI Card
Two power supplies
Five keys per server
Type 6 KBD/ mouse
Raptor DX Video

Qty:4

Sun E450 Deskside configurations
4x480 Cpu
3GB memory (one is 4GB)
12 36gb drives
quad Ethernet
Dual power supplies
CD-Rom FDD
Tp 6 Keyboard and mouse
Video I don't recall but it's on a DB15 and it's not all that hot.

35/70 FlexPack DLT (three) and about 100 tapes

I may pull the tape drives and install some Sun 4mm III DAT's in there as
the Mammoths are worth some money as well as the media.

Thanks in advance,

Rob

not much, unless you get ambitious and sell them as parts.

If you don't want to waste time at all, call up a place called world data
in MN and see how much you might get for a trade in or cash. they can send
out the shipping junk you need as well.

Probably somewhere around $200, although I see on eBay somebody acutally
bought one for $475. The FC HBA might be the single most expensive
item in there. Certainly selling the servers as parts would bring the
most money in, you'll end up with an empty chassis, but if you want to
get the most money...

Wow, thats gotta take up some room.

Somebody bought one for $100 on recently on eBay, although usually I
see that people usually pay to get rid of these. Again, parting out
the memory/CPUs/drives would probably bring in the most money.

I did fail to mention we are going to take some old Dell boxes that were
hell since day 1 to the rifle range and blow the **** out of them and
submit the video on YouTube. See what a M-16 and a Barrett 89 do to
them..... Money well spent!

Sounds good but you may end up adding the Suns to the target shoot also.

As with the other comments made already, those are worth somewhere between
"not much" and "you'll have to pay someone to haul them away", as sad as it
sounds.

The E250's are probably going to be easier to find a taker over the E450's,
mostly because of the size and noise the 450's make. Neither machine is
cheap to ship so when the shipping charges are more than the machines worth,
you are going to be stuck with finding someone in the area, driving
distance. Really narrows down the field.

Like mentioned, you are probably better off parting out the 450's, I don't
think I've seen a whole one offered on ebay in over a year or more. The just
isn't any interest anymore.

The E250's were popular pre-S10 days, especially with the non-existant to
poorly supported x86 version of S9. They were popular with the "I need
something better than a SS20 and need to learn Solaris" crowd, but with S10
sort playing an even field between Sparc and x86, the interest has dwindled
quite a bit in older hardware.

If you in or near a major city, I'd do what you want to do with the tape
drives then list the lot of them on Ebay with "local pickup only" and see if
any nibbles come up.

I don't hold out much chance for a Dell, bu the 450 can probably stop
around from a Barrett at close range!

Yea, it sure would. It would be like shooting an old friend however. I just
could not do it. Matter of fact, I'm just going to keep the gear after some
serious consideration. If I could find another 450 cheap I have all the guts
for it. ( 4gb of ram and 20 36gb drives and a DVD and another Sun Grey
Mammoth for it. I might just run SunRay clients to the desktops in the
office and use Star Office for it. I know there will be a lot of *****ing
but I'll screw a sheep before I pay enterprise licensing to Microsoft when I
can do this dirt cheap and attempt to achieve 5-9's for a very small
business. If it fails, I'll feed the Gates machine out of desperation. I'm
still waiting patiently for my Ultra 40M2 and my 24" LCD for my office and
the dyno room. I'm sure I'll regret it in a year when the prices drop
buku-big-time nut I treated myself to the wickedest workstations on the
planet where I could justify them (And they ain't cheap!)

You guys have a great weekend,

Rob
