Default 400Mhz US-II 501-5445 in Ultra2 does not work

Hi,

has anyone got an idea why a 501-5445 (US-II 400Mhz) would not work
in an Ultra2 (board revision -14 and latest OBP/POST 3.25/3.3.8)?

With diag-switch? set to "true" I only get the single stray character
when switching power on and nothing more...

The same module works (as in "completes diagnostic POST without error") in
an E250 and the Ultra2 completes POST with a 250 Mhz US-II.

ciao
Klaus

There's a jumper that has to be changed.

J2301 is just in back of the two CPUs (looking from the front of the
machine, and at the very left.

Pins 1+2 clock for 250 or 300MHz modules, pins 2+3 for US-I or 400MHz US-
II.

from the Ultra2 UltraSPARC-II Module Upgrade, 805-0936-14

Ah, ok. Should have thought about something like that. I will try
setting that jumper.

This also explains why the 501-5445 worked in another Ultra2, originally
equipped with a US-I, 167 Mhz.

While the notes in the system handbook say

The Ultra 2 requires System Board >=501-3132-13

the board of that Ultra2 is a "dash11" (_not_ "-11").

Setting jumper J2301 worked perfectly. Thanks to Steven and all others
who wrote privately with this advice.
