Default unable to store in hard drive even though enough space exists

I have a iomega external USB drive connected to my Dell Latitude
laptop running on Windows XP. Selecting 'properties' from the menu
(right clicking on the drive icon in windows explorer) shows available
space of 44Gb, but when I try to copy a file of 13 Gb, there is an
error generated saying that there is not enough disk space.

Any idea why this error is coming up, and what might be a way to work
around it?

Thanks for all anticipated replies.

Most likely the drive is FAT32 formatted and it has a 4GB file size limit.

Format it NTFS instead.

Which filesystem is used on the external drive? NTFS or FAT32? Maybe it's
not about the free space, but the limitation on the file size...

To tell you the truth, I don't believe that it's the problem, but check it
out...

What filesystem? Fat32 only supports file sizes up to 4GB.
BTW, it is GB, not Gb. 1GB = 8Gb.
