Default How to determine supported MID types

Pioneer have a page that lists Supported DVD-Writable Media for
various model series:
http://wwwbsc.pioneer.co.jp/product-...v00003r_e.html

I don't know if other manufacturers have similar data. However, I have
recently been able to extract MID codes embedded in the SB01 firmware
for a Samsung SH-S182F DVD writer:

http://www.users.on.net/~fzabkar/DVD...182F_media.txt

The above text file includes NUL characters which may not render
properly in some browsers. However, the file can be viewed correctly
in a text editor such as Windows Notepad.

I tried to do the same for my LG writer, but its firmware code is
compressed. Perhaps this idea can be applied to other brands and
models.

I notice that that page doesn't have my DVR-215D, but I was able to
download a media list for it from its own download page.

I found this utility that can display and modify MID codes:
http://ala42.cdfreaks.com/MCSE/MediaCodeSpeedEdit.zip

MediaCodeSpeedEdit tool for DVD-Writers:

http://club.cdfreaks.com/f61/mediaco...riters-114269/

"MediaCodeSpeedEdit allows you to change the write speed for your
media and to add new media codes to your firmware by renaming an
already available media code."

I think I just wrecked a drive with non-standard firmware, so I'm chicken!
